Matt and I got back a bit late yesterday from a two day whirlwind of retailer events and sneak peeks at games and comics events. A lot of the info was helpful to us as retailers, looking to bring an even better experience to our customers, both old and new! Some of it, of course, is too cool not to tell you about!
Comics
- The most important and awesome information: DEADPOOL!! And lots of him! A new character, Lady Deadpool, will be introduced in an upcoming issue and a new title, Deadpool Corps, will be arriving in stores in a few months. The Deadpool Corps will feature Deadpool (of course), Lady Deadpool, Headpool, Kid Deadpool, and Dogpool - an amazing line-up.
- Fraggle Rock, Dark Crystal, Labyrinth comics coming soon! Matt mentioned it in a Twitter post, but I just have to reiterate it. So sweet! I can't wait to read about the adventures of the Doozers.
- Fabletown Spin-off featuring everyone's favorite spy - Cinderella! We got to see a preview of the first issue of the mini-series. Great art but no words yet!
- Lobo: Highway to Hell miniseries - Another preview at the DC booth, featuring Lobo mourning the death of several space dolphins in the first few pages. Surely the precursor for incredible revenge spanning all of space.
Games
Grind - enough said, I think. Matt and I played a few rounds of the game and it plays fast and fun. Each player takes a turn moving jacks (six per side) and using a set amount of action dice to make attacks. There are multiple arms to use for each model and they are easily identifiable and have really cool special moves.
The Adventurers - a new board game from AEG, the makers of L5R. The game plays like the first fifteen minutes of "Raiders of the Lost Ark," with players racing through a dungeon, trying to grab treasure and avoid deadly traps before the rolling boulder seals off the chambers forever. The pieces and board look great - I look forward to getting a chance to fully play through the game myself. The game should be available soon and we will try to get in a copy for everyone to ogle.
Demos! We have demo copies of Martian Rails and Smash or Trash with several more coming to us in the next few weeks. Martian Rails is a train empire building game in which each player builds rail lines across Mars and delivers goods from location to location. Smash or Trash involves writing your own lyrics to familiar songs based on random topics, performing your new masterpieces, and awarding points (smash hit!) or just trashing everyone else's performances.
Those were my highlights. Stay tuned for Matt's post about his favorite moments of the show. Stop by Monday night to play game board demos or anytime to chat about the latest and greatest news in games and comics! See you soon!
